Our history

Picture
Born and raised under the sunny skies of California, Chris and Steve met in college at Cal Poly, SLO. Coming from a background of competitive bike racing and fabricating, frame building caught their eye.  Benchmark Tooling is  the culmination of these two engineers sharing a common interest of frame building. The Benchmark Tooling brand was established in 2015 and Benchmark Tooling, LLC. was founded in 2020. We strive to bring professional grade tools with an exceptional value to get you building sooner!

Steve is a California native, having grown up in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. If not in the shop, odds are Steve is out adventure riding in the national forest or bikepacking on an epic journey. Steve received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly SLO and has an interest in design for manufacturing, assembly, and automation.

Chris is also a California native and calls the Sacramento area home.  In addition to a love of cycling, Chris enjoys backcountry backpacking and fly fishing in the Sierras. Chris received a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly SLO and PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, Davis. Chris is an all-around manufacturing guru.

Benchmark Tooling is vertically integrated and enabled by a fleet of CNC vertical, horizontal, and turning centers. We believe in end to end quality so we manufacture our product completely in house to give our customers the best  experience.  All our tools are designed, manufactured, and assembled in the USA.
